We have worked tirelessly here at FlipStamp to make sure we are developing the best app possible for our users so they can make friends and join events here in San Diego. That has meant a lot of testing and even more work in development than we ever imagined. Today it all pays off as we are proud to announce our release on the iOS operating system. That means that Apple phone you are holding can now join the community of over 250 android users in San Diego.

Flights are coming in, parents are swelling up with pride, and about 9,500 students are moving out of the college life and into the “Real World”. As SDSU graduation week falls upon us we would like to offer some advice from those graduating, to those that still have time as Aztecs. This won’t be your typical advice list but hopefully a grittier, more real, list from your fellow students.

As we spent time talking with Timothy Little (an avid FlipStamp user) we noticed the same thing coming up over and over again, make friends in college and attend events. Timothy Little is an undergrad who just completed his honors thesis this week and takes the long walk across the Viejas stage on May 16th. Tim has been accepted into the Masters of Counseling Psychology at The University of Kansas.

FlipStamp What advice do you have for current SDSU students or those that are just coming on?

Tim Make friends in your major and keep in contact with them. If you can, take classes together and help each other study, work on projects, read for class, and bail each other out if someone can’t make it to class.

FlipStamp Of course it is great to make friends, especially the ones that can bail you out, but how do you do it with everyone being so busy?

Tim Well, I made friends in the research lab; so that might be advice piece one, join a lab, but outside of that I was just friendly to classmates in major specific classes and kept those connections throughout the major.

FlipStamp Advice for those entering college?

Tim Apply for scholarships! There are a ton (even for all majors) on the financial aid website. Draft a few pages about your ambitions/future and you would be surprised how many you can apply to with just that document. It’s free money on the table. Take a little time and apply to as many as you qualify for.

FlipStamp Advice for those entering their senior year?

Tim Try and think about and explore your options for after you graduate BEFORE you graduate. Be it graduate school, or jumping into the job market, take classes that are relevant to your plan.

FlipStamp What networking events did you attend? How did you hear about them?

Tim I attended graduate student panels held in the psych department. I got an email on blackboard from the psych department to come to a free event that has current MS and Ph.D students talk about how to get in, general advice, how to study, what to focus on, etc. I made friends with the other psych students who were interested in the same thing.

FlipStamp What makes your advice different from others?

Tim I am literally just coming to the culmination of all this advice. I made it into grad school with a lot of scholarship money, so I guess it all worked out.

FlipStamp Any closing advice you can think of?

Tim Make friends, have fun, and participate in school activities. Join a research lab, play an intramural sport, attend the sports games, go to concerts etc. College is a time to learn, grow, and insert generic college talk here, but it’s also a time to have some fun as well.

We thank Tim for his time and contribution to other SDSU students who are all trying to do the same thing he is, get to the next stage in life. If you like or disagree with what Tim had to say let us know in the comments section or feel free to write us as we would love to host you! And as always – Aztecs Fight!
